Most people will simply use air conditioning and not worry about how it works but there are those that really have an interest and want to know what is going on inside the machine.
There are many things that go into the operation of the air conditioner, some of which seem rather strange but in light it is all very necessary for a person to have the cool air that they are desiring. The main focus of air conditioning is obviously to cool the air that is in the surrounding area. Well the same process goes on inside the air conditioner and the very same principle is applied in just a smaller scale format. Air conditioners make use of Freon, which is a gas based compound. There are many types of Freon and they have many uses. For people who use aerosol cans, Freon is what propels the contents out of the can when you press the nozzle. Refrigerators also use Freon and work on the same basis as the air conditioner except the cooling area is much smaller then the air conditioners.
The Freon will run through a compressor where it is compressed and super heated. Once it is heated it will then run through a valve that will cause it to expand and cool down into a gas form and then through a series of coils where it is evaporated to a certain point. This process is then run through the fan where the cold blast of air is pushed out to lower the temperature of the home and the surrounding air. This is a constant process as long as the unit is running and happens quickly. The act of evaporation may lead one to believe that you will constantly have to refill the reserves of Freon. This is simply not true. Most often you will only lose any of the Freon when the system has a leak. It may take as long as ten years before the system needs to be recharged, and then it will only be a matter of a pound or two of the substance. This stems from the issue that there is very little in the way of loss when it comes to the Freon. It is made up of billions upon billions of tiny particles that are used during the process so the structure will remain well built for many years.
